Bill, is that an angel on your shoulder?
Lawrence G. Lyons WEST BRIDGEWATER L.G. "Bill" Lyons, lost his long battle with cancer, Jan. 15, 2010. He was 75 years old. Bill and his wife Amy performed all over New England as the duo "Just the two of Us." They were also mentors for children in the arts. In his younger years, Bill wrestled professionally. He also starred in a movie called The Lawrence Mill Strike, in which he played his guitar and led the strikers in protest songs. In the 1960s, he went to Nova Scotia to collect songs with his good friend Jack Parmly. He was good friends with the late Burl Ives, Liam Clancy and the Clancy Bros., Oscar Brand, Bob Dylan and Joe Hickerson. He was the son of the late Alice Cobbett and John Lyons. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his great music, cds and talented comic wit. His single written for President Obama was sung at the Tamboo Restaurant in Brockton on inauguration night and received a standing ovation. It was also acknowledged by the President. Besides his loving wife Amy, who was his partner in life and song, he is survived by his two sisters, Susan Morse, Kathy Palumbo and her husband John; two nephews, Jeff Morse and Rickie Crandall; one daughter, Dee Nilson and her friend, Chuck Ochs; and son-in-law, Dick Nilson; two grandsons, Michael Nilson and his wife Heather, their children Kayla, Chad, Kaylee, Riley and Mikey, David Nilson and his wife Allisson and their son Andrew. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Feb. 20, 2010, from 12-5 p.m. in the Polish Club, 127 Spring St., Bridgewater. All friends are welcome to attend. Bring your instruments if you wish to play.
